Get Your Home Business Up and Running The Right Way

I was asked a while back by a new member of my team what I would do if I was brand new all over again to the online network marketing or affiliate sales business. What would be my first steps to get up and running?

It’s a great question that really got me thinking.

With no list of prospects, without a webpage and zero experience, where would I go to get started?

It’s a detailed subject so I’ll keep it to the basics. Here’s what I’d do if starting over again.

First, I would set about building an email list to market to.

It can be done in several ways but here’s how I’d do it.

If you have the budget and a willingness to learn, the quickest way to build a list is to slap up a quick capture page (use elance.com or other forums to find someone who can build you one cheaply and quickly) offering a free report, something like “How to Drive Traffic to your Website” (buy a cheap PLR report at plr.com to give away) as an enticement then use pay per click ads on Google, Yahoo and MSN to build a list.

Please be aware that to the uninitiated, pay per click advertising can be a money pit. If you choose to go this route I strongly recommend using resources like Perry Marshall’s guide or one of several other reputable online sources to learn how to structure a proper campaign. Failure to do so can cost you a huge amount of money in a very short time.

When I first started I wasted a lot of money on paid ads with little success. This necessitated a move to “free” methods of driving traffic to my site. This is far from all bad. The free marketing methods do take a lot longer to work but the positive news is once they start to kick in, they will work for the long term and even more effectively than paid advertising.

Despite what some of the “gurus” might tell you, please consider article marketing for long term traffic driving capabilities (why do you think I’m doing this article). If you’re not a writer, you can hire one off elance.com or other such sites. I’ve paid as little as $5 per article. Just be sure to demand original content. Post the articles on ezinearticles.com as it’s an authority site that the search engines love. After that, here’s a tip that will put your traffic driving capabilities into overdrive. Subscribe to uniquearticlewizard.com — It’s a supped up article submission service that will greatly expedite building back links to your site (if you don’t have a clue what I’m talking about, no worries, it’s all good). The back links help to get your page ranked high in Google and from this, you get free “organic” traffic from the search engines.

Here’s why I think the traffic you get from articles is vastly superior to traffic from paid advertising. Paid ads work but they also drive a lot of looky loo’s and tire kickers to your site. This is doubly frustrating as these folks don’t buy whatever you have for sale and they cost you money to get there in the first place. By getting your site ranked and on or near the top of Google, you’ll attract a more highly focused viewer who is more genuinely interested in what you have to offer. My experience and testing has shown far greater response from the folks who found my sites through the search engines as opposed to pay per click ads.

That’s one way to do it. Next time I’ll discuss a different way to get your home business up and running the right way.
