Persuasion In Copywriting And Sermon

Under Internet Marketing

Have you ever attended a church and listened to a humdrum preaching?

When I was young I indeed got my fill of dry homilies from the platform. I’ve also witness my share of weakly written sales letters on the web.

I’m an internet marketing entrepreneur. Operating business on the internet needs some copywriting skills. As you may know, I’m also serving as a missionary in southern Mexico. After I decided to become a “preacher” I became firm not to give tiresome messages.

Some of the stuff that I am learning in my internet business are overflowing into my ministry. Specially when it comes to giving messages.

I took some homiletic subjects in Bible College. What I’m about to impart is a little different. It’s not homiletics and it’s not even copywriting .

Consider it as a persuasion. Whenever we think of online business we think of creating excellent copy. As copywriters we learn the art of persuasion to a very high level.

As preachers we should be extremely skillful in the art of persuasion. Those skills can be translated to audio and video as well.

And it would be the audio and video versions that would relate more directly to a preaching.

We customarily think of preaching when we hear an audible voice. We on occasion even think of it as shouting. Preaching may not be flawless and it can positively be frowned upon when it is depressing, critical or condemnatory. In spite of this it is the excellent mode and even God’s preferred mode to convey messages of faith, love and salvation to the masses.

In all the world’s knowledge, it still didn’t know God…so he commissioned preachers!

A lot of copywriters are far from flawless. In fact, we’d like to tell them to “get another job”.

What have I specifically learned about persuasion from my internet marketing that has aided me to be a better preacher?

The object of copywriting is to persuade our prospect to accomplish a particular goal, to take action or perform a given action. This is particularly true when it comes to an online marketing. This has really enabled me to deliver improved messages as a preacher as well.

We habitually think of copywriting as material that is perused. On the other hand, as I mentioned above, Persuasion ways can and should be in an audible and visual design. That’s why, we are seeing audio and video copywriting delivered more and more often on internet business resources.

Hence we most certainly can take our skills of persuasion and apply them to our sermon. I used to be “overly confrontational” and am now much more wise as a serpent of conveying the message to people. You conduct that by meeting people where they are…and proceeding from there.

I think Paul’s lecture of the “Unknown God” is the best representation in the scriptures of a “sales presentation” in evangelism since he met the audience right where they were thinking…and then guided them in a logical/emotional format to God. -Acts 17:22-17:31

Although he wasn’t able to revolutionize the city, the people said they desired to hear more.
