Small Business Ideas
The past year has been tough for numerous employees who lost their jobs during the recessionary period. What was most unfortunate was that those that lost their jobs didn’t have anything left in their banks to cater for living expenses and rent. The end result was that a large number of people found themselves in debt and a lot of assets were liquidated. But for those who had invested in small business ideas there was something still left for them to salvage.
If you’re still employed I recommend starting a small business selling sandwiches; cakes and doughnuts at work. A busy workplace never allows opportunities to take a break, unless if work is completed on time. Make a few snacks and try selling them from your office. The secret is to make your food cheap and enjoyable; do that and you’ll soon be saving sums of money that will shock you after a month of saving.
Christmas is the time where everyone is good natured, even the short tempered act like they never raised their voices in their entire lives. Capitalise on this if you are a good graphic designer and make your own Christmas cards. Buy a good colour printer; cartridges and paper and market yourself with fliers and posters. If you’re cheap and have nice cards you can actually end up getting orders from stationery stores.
When it rains there is always a lot of grass to be cut. Start your own grass cutting company and move around your neighbourhood offering your services. Make fliers and be sure to have a competitive price that many families wouldn’t mind parting ways with. With a family of young adults you can work at it as a family business that provides extra income for your children.
Professional skills are being wasted by people who possess them. Instead of starting a small business that accommodates your skills you spend all your time working on someone else’s business. Utilise your teaching skills after work by having extra lessons at least 2-3 days a week. Make your services cheaper than most if you want the most out of this. On the other had if you’re a lawyer you can open a small firm and represent a few clients every month. Eventually you can even start your own firm.
Installing Christmas lights during this festive season is another way of making money off a small business. Get everything you need at a cheap price 4-6 months before Christmas and execute an excellent job with cute follow up. With the number of people needing Christmas lights you could have a good business for every festive season.
But if you are good at plaiting hair you can look for affordable office space and open your own salon. To be competitive you had better have good quality services at a fair price.
