Understanding SEO, PR, Backlinks, URL Ranking, PR Tool, SEM, SERP, Tags, and URL Submission. – The Best SEO Blogs
Many companies are using some, all or more of each of these terms to promote their websites. There is a lot of discussion on blogs, forums and chat rooms on which one is the best, which is the worst and so forth. Companies spend billions of dollars to plan, design, implement and maintain these items. Also, it is worth mentioning that individual people spend little to nothing and accomplish the same sorts of things these big companies are succeeding at.
You will find countless articles out there in the wonderful world we call the “World Wide Web” that focus on tips and tricks and how to scenario explanations all of which have their own rendition and testimonial of how theirs worked and how it can work for you. We can stand to learn something, I think, from all of the articles available online.
However, my focus is to stand back and take a look at the broader picture. Before you can inspect the details of something you need to first find the something you are wanting to inspect. But like most things, there is a learning curve in learning the language….the same goes for these terms.
So after learning the hard way, I found that if you take something that is complicated and simplify it, logic states, that it will be more simple to understand. Below you will find my simplified version of what these terms stand for. May it help you progress to the next stage of difficulty…using them in practice.
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. This is the quest of being seen by everyone in the world online through search engines like Google, Yahoo and others. SEO is primarily the reason why we have so many of these other terms next to be explained. Each day it seems like some new strategy comes out because Google or Yahoo changed they way they do things to try to avoid people using and abusing their searches. This often makes me think of Taxes and the IRS….but I won’t go down that path now. So on to the next term.
PR = Page Rank = Let’s face it we are lazy. How often do you go more than two pages deep when you have searched a topic? Probably less than 5% of the time This is why so much money is being spent on getting the highest rank in search engines. SEO helps maximize PR.
Backlinks = So have you ever wished you could just call up Google or Yahoo and ask them to put your link on their front page if you promise to put their link on your page? Backlinks are supposed relationships you have with other websites, blogs, or social media profile. You pretty much agree to post each others link or website address on each others sites. Backlinks are assumed to be very useful in PR and SEO.
URL Ranking = This is very similar to PR except it is more focused on the tools available to get sites to backlink to your site. There are many sites, free and for profit, that will submit your site, discussed later, so you can get a higher URL Ranking.
PR Tool = Page Rank Tools are becoming very popular. They do things like analyze your website to see if there are items on there that could be improved to maximize online presence. Some tools are very advanced and can tell you all sorts of things to help you improve your SEO and PR Rank.
SEM = Stands for Search Engine Marketing. There are all sorts of opinions of what this means. In short is it SEO with a twist and like most things in life, twists aren’t free! SEM uses SEO and also other methods of advertising to get a higher PR. In theory, it acts synonymously with SEO.
SERP = Stands for Search Engine Results Page. This of a SERP as all the methods, both free and for profit, you can use and put them into a big formula, the result is a SERP. The methods of calculating SERPs is why I am writing this article. This is the whole Taxes and IRS catch up game.
Tags = Tags are very complex in practice but very easy to understand. Obviously the internet is written in codes, like JAVA, HTML, etc…A tag is a method, applied differently under each language writing code, that helps search engines recognize Keywords. Keywords are how search engines function. That is the input of the formula for SERPs, the output is the websites that specific keywords on websites find. Tags are very helpful, no matter what Google or Yahoo do, they will always have to rely upon tags or else they won’t ever find accurate specific websites relevant to what searchers want to find.
URL Submission = URL submission can be performed at many different levels. Again, remember this is based on SEM…money can have a play in this. Some of the different levels go from submitting your website url at each of the search engines sites. All have specifc links you can get to to do so…Google, Yahoo, Bing and so forth. There are some sites that say they will submit your site for Free or for Fee to a certain number of the search engines on the web including the big ones. Whichever path you take, free or fee, this can take some time but can get your name or site on the map.
There are so many other items I can go on and on about but this is the ground level of what needs to be understood when talking about PR and SEO. All are very important in the whole process. Some play bigger roles and some don’t. It is usually the different combinations of items that make websites successful so remember diversify your methods and don’t be afraid to take some risks and try them all at least once. – Free Link Submit
