Your Commitment To Yourself And Your Home Business
I’ve seen so many people “make a commitment” to building a business, then as the first little obstacle comes along they quit!
In other words, their so-called commitment was nothing more than idle chatter. No substance. There was nothing there.
It used to bother me a lot. But what I’ve trained myself to do is to ignore what people say they are going to do. The only thing that impresses me now is real action.
If you’re looking for success in this industry you need to have the same outlook.
But let’s talk about what commitment really means. Let’s talk about your commitment.
If you’re either thinking about, or are already involved in a home based, network marketing business, you should pause and ask yourself some basic questions. I also think you should be brutally honest with yourself as you search for your answers.
Are you willing to do the really tough things necessary reach your goals? Will you put yourself in uncomfortable situations? Will you move heaven and earth get past the inevitable obstacles you will face?
What are some of those obstacles? Let’s look at a couple to give you an idea.
Dealing with the negativity of those around you is a very real obstacle. You may hear a lot of negative comments, your friends will tell you to not get involved, prospects will tell you it doesn’t work, your spouse or other family members may be be unsupportive or downright hostile.
How you handle this wave of negativity is a very real test of your commitment. And it’s one that many in this industry never get over.
Even if you’re mentally ready and expect it, dealing effectively with it is hugely challenging for many.
The best answer is to surround yourself with like-minded people who support you in your goals. This is an easy statement to make, but requires tremendous effort to do. But it’s critical.
Another obstacle is lack of time.
It really is much easier to just quit instead of pushing yourself to keep going when, after being exhausted from working at your j.o.b., battling rush hour traffic, then having some quality time with your family, all you really want to do is crash for the night!
We all tend to follow the basic rule of physics which is to find the path of least resistance. And quitting in the face of obstacles is that path. That’s why your commitment needs to be strong enough to move you past those obstacles.
When you go to an event and you see really successful people on the stage, it’s natural to think it was easy for them and that they were always successful. Anyone who does something well tends to make it look effortless!
Of course if you stop to think about it you realize that their success was not handed to them. They had to push through all manner of obstacles. In fact, the greater the success, the more obstacles they faced and overcame. The major difference between them and those who are not sharing the stage is this: They made firm commitments, they worked on their business every day, they attended the training, and they became leaders for their teams. In other words, they did all the things you can do and must do to reach the same level of success.
You need to treat your business just like that.
Remember that success is not a sudden thing that just appears one day! It comes about as a result of all of your efforts that you make on a daily basis. Consistently learning, taking action, failing (yes, failing!), learning, then taking more action, that’s what leads to success.
